After my recent snarky post, I felt obligated to contribute constructively to the spirit of the thread.
I was very happy to see the expanded watchlist. I have some ideas on how to make it better for use in incursion fleets.
Get rid of the 2-3 second lag between when damage begins and when my fleetmates can see it in the watchlist. That lag can lead to a pod when the mission has a lot of sansha battleship DPS on the grid.
I'd like to see the fleet window, when chosen to display as a list, become a watchlist that could:
1) be arranged by drag and drop, be arranged via a right mouse click drop down menu by hiearchy with fleet leadership positions shown to the right, thus not inserting a new line, and arranged by drop down menu according to fleet leadership special assignment (more on this later)
2) be clickable via right mouse click drop down menu to warp to, approach, orbit at, keep at, select for support (not target. more later) assign drones, transfer shields, share cap, rep armor, rep hull , rep that player's drones. Let the computer be smart enough to only include in the drop down menu what is possible for me to do, for example, if I don't have a hull repper, don't show me the option of repping hulls. So frustrating to be asked if I want to do something and when I say yes, to be told I cannot - like rename, change name, or set name (or any of the many different terms which all mean the same thing and need to be standardized) when I am not in station or wherever it can't be done for some reason.
3) allow each fleet member in the leadership positions of FC, WCs & SLs to enter a six position alphanumeric field on the same line as each fleet member under their command to alert the fleet of that fleet member's assignment of additional duties - for example DDD for drone bunny (that would make it so easy to assign drones) and AAA (that would make it so easy to set an orbit distance). As mentioned earlier, allow the drop down menu to sort the fleet so the members with these leadership assigned additional duties will be grouped so fleet members will not have to fumble around finding them when warping into a hot LZ and being busy with many tasks in the first few critical seconds. It would facilitate the logi support by having those with special needs for additional support or attention grouped and when new assignments are made, they will automatically show up on the logi's fleet window in the special needs group. Logis would not have to search for newly assigned special team members to give support or be constantly re-making their warchlists from scratch.
New area - targetting enemy ships for destruction and selecting friendly ships for support. It would have to be an antiquated system that would lump these two categories into the same pile. I would hope that warships built 2500 years in the future would have overcome this major design flaw and have IFF systems (Identify Friend or Foe) be built in as a no-brainer. Even in our own time of right now, IFF is a major part of display systems and emitters are even making their way into the gear of each solitary infantryman so they can be identified by air and space assets including aircraft moving at anywhere from a hover to mach 2+, by drones and even cruise missiles.
Enemy ships and entities targetted for destruction, and friendly ships and entities selected to be interacted with in a non-violent manner (i.e.rep or salvage) need to be in two seperate lists. Keep the targetted for destruction or targetted for hostile interference (webbed, neuted, etc...) to show as they are now and have their own number of available slots. Move the selected for support friendly entities into a vertical list or have the capability to select and display them within the newly instituted fleet window watchlist I described above. Selected for support could be displayed with a light blue background and not be limited in number. Have a non-fleet entities vertical list window for salvage and ships not in the fleet or for all friendly ships when there is no fleet. How do I know they are friendly? I selected them for support and not for targetting or no selection at all. Make it a seperate window so can move it around as I see fit and don't clutter up the overview with it. Keep the overview for targetted, non-targetted and non-selected ships and entities like non-selected salvage, gates, collidables, etc... The opportunity to shoot a friendly instead of sharing cap by fat fingering F1 instead of F2 is hugely diminished and avionic design engineers will no longer look like the dumbest of the dumb.
My PvP experience in fleets goes back to when they were still called gangs, but I think these suggestions would be seen as acceptable in those fleets, too.
Totally new area - Routes show in the upper left of the screen. Let me right click on the next square in the route to select jump so I can manually fly and still have my overview uncluttered by gates to better accomodate possible new threats/targets.
Fly safe, or not! - now let's see if this will post on the first shot... |
